McPherson College Auto Restoration Program

The Auto Restoration Program at McPherson College is a two year program which teaches all phases of the art of restoring vintage cars.  Enrollment is limited so as to provide the optimum student to teacher/facility ratio.  Various aspects of restoration are covered including:

Robert Vaughn, Director of Auto Restoration Technology Operations, gave us a guided tour of the program beginning with this perfectly restored British Triumph.  Chief Bill Quint, our resident Scot give the car the once over and proclaimed it "beautiful".

Robert is an expert in all areas of restoration and gave a great technical explanation of each facet of the operation. Here he goes over the details of restoring the body of a Triumph Spitfire with Chief Ed Brown.  While body restoration is the most visible part of a restored auto, there is a tremendous amount of effort put into the complete restoration process.  No detail is too small to receive attention.  The engine, of course, is the heart of an auto and the engines here are completely torn down and refurbished.  The Chiefs took great interest in this process.

All in all, when a student graduates from the college auto restoration program he or she has a thorough knowledge with marketable skills.  The program is supported by collector car enthusiasts such as Jay Leno, many car clubs, and organizations including Mercedes-Benz, Popular Mechanics, and Hagerty Classic Insurance.  And the nice thing is that scholarships and financial aide are available.  The students do a great job under the able tutelage of the faculty.
