Airman and Family Readiness Center

The McConnell AFB Airman and Family Readiness Center provides assistance in a variety of ways to the men and women of the base regardless of organization or rank.   This group of dedicated personnel recognize that it is a vital job to provide support to military family members whose spouses are deployed throughout the world often on a no notice basis.

The center is staffed by civilian and military professionals and trained volunteers.  They offer free information, referrals, assistance with everyday needs and difficulties and help in crisis situations.  Center workers link personnel with appropriate resources, then follow up to make sure their needs have been met.

They provide information on child care, spouse employment, relocation, personal financial management, crisis intervention, deployment matters and referral to outside agencies and professionals.  They also offer help with vital programs such as transition assistance, relocation libraries, even "lending closets" with bedding and household items that personnel can borrow until their own belongings arrive.

The Council of Chiefs is proud to provide financial assistance to help sustain such a selfless and beneficial organization.  Each year The Council provides funding to assist the center to provide holiday meals for low income families, toys for children and supplies for the Lending Closet.

Mary Reece, [4th from left] Director of the Airman and Family Readiness Center, accepts our check for $1,500 to support various activities for military personnel and their families.  Mary Ann Barry and the rest of the Center's Counsellors, joined the Director in receiving the donation.  The staff welcomed us with grilled steak for lunch at their facility.

One of our favorite adventures is to play host at one of the many booths at Family Fun Day.  This year we ran the Bingo game and it is impossible to determine who had the most fun ... the Chiefs or the kids.  Everyone is a winner at the Chiefs booth.
