The members of The Council of Chiefs enjoy a weekly game of golf at the McConnell Air Force Base golf course. In the spirit of our philosophical charter of providing assistance to the community we have endeavored to help the golf course management with its course improvement efforts. We also took on sponsorship of the "Hook-A-Kid on Golf" Program at the Derby Recreation Center. This page holds the photographic history of those efforts.

Throughout the winter months we manufactured distance markers to be placed at the standard 200 (blue), 150 (white) and 100 (red) yard distances to the center of the green. These markers were made from cement stepping stones, painted and sealed with our logo and the yardage appropriate to each colored stone. The work was accomplished at no cost to the golf course and was accomplished at our meeting location ... in "the barn".

The markers are placed in the fairways of the course to mark the distance from that point to the center of the green. The markers help golfers choose which club to use to get on the green.
|
The Chiefs also manufactured markers to be placed on each Tee Box to indicate the proper teeing location for each player skill. Blue markers for experts, White for intermediate, Yellow for seniors and Red for women. The two markers at each skill position are made of wood with a dado cut to contain the appropriate color and a beveled top containing the Twin Lakes Gof Course logo.

In early April the Chiefs were able to negotiate a donation of 108,000 lbs of concrete block to build a revetment to house sand used for golf course maintenance.
|
We then manufactured 18 concrete 3' x 6' slabs are used as a base for benches and water coolers at each tee box.

Chief John Hayworth negotiated with Davis-Moore auto dealerships to donate funds to manufacture station dividers for the driving range. The dividers were produced by our good friend retired Colonel Chuck Lippelgoos.
