I enlisted in the U. S. Navy in June of 1953 and attend "Boot Camp" at San Diego, CA. Following completion of boot camp I was assigned to the destroyer escort USS Douglas A Munro (DE 422) as a seaman until January 1955. In January 1955 to May 1955 I attended US Navy Hospital Corps School, San Diego, CA. Upon graduation from Corps School I was transferred to US Naval Hospital, Bremerton, WA. In April of 1956 I was transferred to the US Naval Dispensary at Seattle, WA. In June of 1957 I was separated from active duty and transferred to the Naval Reserves.

On 26 June 1963 I enlisted in the Kansas Air National Guard as an A1C (E4) and assigned to the 184 USAF Dispensary. I was promoted to Staff Sergeant in February 1965. On 26 January 1968 the 184 Tac Dispensary was activated due to the USS Peublo's capture. While other member's of the Dispensary were being transferred to other Air Force Bases I remained behind to deactivate The 184 Tac Dispensary. In October of 1968 I was transferred to the 835th Tactical Hospital, Mc Connell AFB, KS.

On 18 June 1969 I was released from extended active duty and assigned to the 184th Tactical Dispensary, Kansas Air National Guard, as a Medical Services Technician, and NCOIC of the physical examination section. In July 1969 I was promoted to Technical Sergeant (E-6). I was promoted to Master Sergeant (E-7) In August 1970. On 15 February 1973 I was assigned to duties as Chief of Medical Administration. I was promoted to Senior Master Sergeant (E-8) in August 1973. On I October 1976 was advanced in grade to Chief Master Sergeant (E-9). On 31 December 1987 I retired from the Kansas Air National Guard.
